What Jesus leaves out, however, is the circumcision that would have accompanied that conversion. That would have seemed like a glaring omission. Teaching is an essential element of discipleship. The twelve disciples spent years with Jesus absorbing His teaching. The spread of the gospel would be fraught with dangers and tensions. All but one of the disciples would pay the ultimate price for following the Great Commission, but Jesus promised to be with His disciples in the midst of those tensions—and with us!

Instead of catching fish, they would become fishers of men Matthew 4: Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves. Be on your guard; you will be handed over to the local councils and be flogged in the synagogues. On my account you will be brought before governors and kings as witnesses to them and to the Gentiles. But when they arrest you, do not worry about what to say or how to say it.
Early in their relationship, Jesus told the disciples that His ultimate goal was to send them out to share the gospel. For the good news to spread and take root, the disciples would find themselves living as sheep among wolves. In the Parable of the Sower , Jesus uses the metaphor of soil to look at different reactions to the gospel. When the seed of the gospel is scattered, it reacts differently to the soil it lands on.
For the seed to create a crop, someone would need to sow it. We now see that all of us who put their trust in Jesus are sowers of that seed. Every Gospel and the book of Acts include a commission from Jesus to His followers to begin growing the church. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well.

First of all, Jesus tells the disciples to go preach the gospel to all creation. The Messiah will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, and repentance for the forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
Why’s it called the Great Commission
You are witnesses of these things. Here we see the importance of spiritual empowerment. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord. As the Father has sent me, I am sending you. For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.
Another important aspect of verse 19 is that Christ is specifically teaching the doctrine of the Trinity to His followers. The three Persons of the Godhead are each equally and fully God and here presented in the logical order of Father, Son and Holy Spirit - yet only One God from the beginning see Romans 1: Finally, in verse 20, Jesus provides specific direction with affirmation to His followers, "teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.
We can't profess Christ as Savior and Lord, while rejecting certain of His teachings. As we teach Christ's truths, verse 20 declares that we can be confident, in faith, that Jesus Christ will support us. This fact has proven trustworthy throughout the centuries as millions of believers have heard, accepted and shared the Good News of Jesus Christ.
Yes, Christ has ascended back to heaven, but He is present by the power of the Holy Spirit in every believer! This is faith in action! People who obey this command change their spiritual lives forever!
Great Commission - Wikipedia
It could be spreading the Good News to a neighbor or moving to another country to reach the people there. It could be sharing with less fortunate kids down the street or spreading the Word in a town two hours away. Wherever we go, every faithful Christian is compelled through obedience to share the Gospel. We see that in verse But the clue that Jesus intends for the command not just to be for the eleven, but to some group outliving the eleven, comes at the end of verse So the task will last as long as God promises to help it last: So the question is — and every generation of believers has to ask this — who picks up the mantle in the following centuries?
Specific human beings do it.
Hopefully these people are supported by every individual and supported by the whole church. Where do they come from? How do they come into being? How do they get authorized, gifted, equipped, sustained?
The Great Commission
Jesus said in John And I have other sheep that are not of this fold. I must bring them also, and they will listen to my voice. So there will be one flock, one shepherd. According to John He laid down his life to gather them in. They will hear his voice through human voices that make known the truth of Jesus. Jesus prayed in John So how will the nations and peoples be reached?
By means of believers opening their mouths and telling the good news deposited by the apostles in the New Testament concerning the gospel of Jesus.
